What is Abhijit Muhurat?

Abhijit Muhurat combines "Abhijit," meaning "winner," and "Muhurat," meaning "time." In Hinduism, performing tasks at the right time is considered crucial for success. Abhijit Muhurat provides an easy-to-use auspicious time for those who are not experts in Panchang calculations. Although Abhijit Muhurat and Abhijit Nakshatra (constellation) are not directly related, their alignment is considered extremely favorable.

Timing of Abhijit Muhurat

The Hindu day is divided into 30 Muhurats: 15 from sunrise to sunset and 15 from sunset to sunrise. Among these, Abhijit Muhurat is considered the most auspicious. It typically starts 24 minutes before noon and ends 24 minutes after noon. For example, if the sun rises at 6:00 a.m., Abhijit Muhurat lasts from 11:36 a.m. to 12:24 p.m. The timing varies depending on the sunrise of a particular location.

Significance of Abhijit Muhurat

Abhijit Muhurat lasts approximately 48 minutes during midday and is considered highly powerful in destroying Doshas (spiritual afflictions). It is the 8th Muhurat of the 15 divisions between sunrise and sunset. This period is ideal for daily auspicious tasks without complex Panchang calculations.

Lord Shiva is believed to have defeated the demon Tripurasur during Abhijit Muhurat. Lord Vishnu's blessings during this time are also said to remove countless Doshas with His Sudarshan Chakra. Abhijit Muhurat is also known as Abhijin Muhurat, Chaturtha Lagna, Kutub Muhurat, and Swami Tithiyansha Muhurat. Its counterpart is Nishita Kaal, which occurs at midnight.
