Who is Bhadra and what is its significance?
Whenever we talk about the auspicious time for any auspicious work, the name of Bhadra comes first. According to religious beliefs, Bhadra is the sister of Lord Shanidev and the daughter of Sun God. Her nature was very harsh, which is why she was recognized as Vishti Karan, a major part of the Panchang.
When determining the auspicious time for any auspicious or auspicious work, special attention is paid to the Bhadra period, and any auspicious work is performed only after excluding the Bhadra period. However, Bhadra is also considered auspicious for certain special tasks.
Astrological calculations of Bhadra
The Panchang has five main parts, of which Karan is an important part. Of the 11 karanas, seven are movable and four are fixed. Of these 11 karanas, the Vishti Karan is called Bhadra. Being movable, it is always in motion, and therefore holds special significance when checking the accuracy of any almanac.
How to determine Bhadra's position?
The effect of Bhadra depends on the planet it resides in. This is based on the position of the Moon:
- Bhadra in the Earthly Realm: When the Moon is in Cancer, Leo, Aquarius, or Pisces, Bhadra is in the Earthly Realm. During this time, Bhadra has its full effect and is considered extremely detrimental to any auspicious work. Under these circumstances, tasks either remain incomplete or face obstacles.
- Bhadra in Swargaloka: When the Moon is in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Scorpio, Bhadra is in Swargaloka. In this situation, Bhadra gives auspicious results.
- Bhadra in Patalaloka: When the Moon is in Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Capricorn, Bhadra is considered to be in Patala, and this is also considered auspicious.
Bhadra Mukha and Bhadra Puchha
Bhadra period is divided into two parts: Bhadra Mukha and Bhadra Puchha.
- Bhadra Mukha: This is the first 5 Ghadis (approximately 2 hours) of Bhadra period. It is considered extremely inauspicious and no auspicious work should be done during this time.
- Bhadra Puchch: This is the time of 3 Ghadis (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes) at the end of Bhadra period. Bhadra Puchch is considered auspicious and some work can be done during this time if absolutely necessary.
According to Maharishi Kashyap, a person who wants a happy life should not do any auspicious work during Bhadra period, because doing so destroys the auspicious results of that work.
Works not to be done during Bhadra period
Performing almost all auspicious and auspicious works during Bhadra period is considered prohibited. The main ones include:
- Rituals like marriage, mundan ceremony, or housewarming.
- Starting a new business.
- Undertaking an auspicious journey.
- Auspicious festivals like Raksha Bandhan.
Works to be done during Bhadra period
Bhadra period is considered suitable for inauspicious works. During this time, you can do the following:
- Attacking an enemy or initiating a lawsuit.
- Operation or use of weapons.
- Lighting a fire or cutting an object.
Prevention and Remedy for Bhadra
Astrology suggests some remedies to avoid the ill effects of Bhadra:
- If Bhadra occurs in heaven or hell, it does not cause any harm.
- If the day's Bhadra occurs at night and the night's Bhadra occurs during the day, the Bhadra Dosha does not occur and is considered auspicious.
- To avoid the ill effects of Bhadra, worshiping Lord Shiva is considered most effective.
- You can wake up in the morning and chant the 12 names of Bhadra, which reduces its inauspicious effects. These names are: Dhanya, Dadhimukhi, Bhadra, Mahamadi, Kharanna, Kaalratri, Maharudra, Vishti, Kulputrika, Bhairavi, Mahakali, and Asurakshaykari.
