Diwali 2025: The Great Festival of Lights and Prosperity
Diwali, or Deepawali, is one of India's biggest and most celebrated festivals. The celebrations span five days, starting with Dhanteras and ending with Bhaiya Dooj. In some states, such as Maharashtra, it begins a day earlier with Govatsa Dwadashi. The festival is known for the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, along with other deities, and special rituals.
Significance of Diwali Puja
Of the five days of Diwali celebrations, the new moon day is the most important. This day is known as Lakshmi Puja, Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja, and Diwali Puja. These pujas are performed not only in homes but also in commercial establishments. This day is very special for traditional Hindu merchants. On this day, ink bottles and pens are sanctified by worshipping Goddess Mahakali, while new account books are also sanctified by worshipping Goddess Saraswati.
Auspicious Time for Lakshmi Puja
The most auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali is after sunset, known as Pradosh Kaal. The occurrence of the new moon during this time holds special significance for the puja. Therefore, the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja is determined during this Pradosh Kaal. If this auspicious time is available, even for a short period, it should be prioritized for the puja.
